Over the coming weeks and months, we’ll give you a report every few days in regards to what is taking place on the European track and field circuit.  With the majority of the top American middle distance runners headed overseas to compete in the European season, often times these runners and their performances get overlooked by the general sporting public, and even the American track and field fans.  We hope this will offer you a way to keep posted on your favorite runners while they compete across the Atlantic.

Madrid Grand Prix (Spain) - Results

Christin Wurth-Thomas is at it again.  The Nike standout placed fourth in the 800m dash at the Madrid GP over the weekend, running a new personal best of 2:00.16, which ranks her US#3 this season in the event.  Wurth-Thomas is having an amazing season, with a runner-up finish at the U.S. T&F Championships last weekend in the 1,500m, making another world team, while setting a new 1,500m personal best at the Pre Classic in early June with a 4:01.72 finish.

Cork City Sports (Ireland) - Results

While many of the top Americans have yet to compete in Europe, a handful of athletes took part in the Cork City Sports meet Saturday.  Three American men competed in the 1,500m, while one woman competed in the 1,500m.  Former Texas standout Darren Brown placed third overall in the men’s race, finishing in 3:47.71.  Meanwhile, Adam Perkins placed fifth in 3:50.12, while former Marquette standout Tommy Schmitz did not finish.  Dacia Perkins was the lone American in the women’s field, placing second overall in 4:17.66.

The Laussane Super Grand Prix meet, held in Laussane, Switzerland, takes place Tuesday, June 7.  This is one of the best track and field meets in the world this year, and will feature such notable track athletes as Usain Bolt, Asafa Powell, Allyson Felix, Steve Hooker and Dawn Harper.

However, there will be a few American distance runners competing.  Rob Myers will take part in the hotly contested men’s 1,500m, while U.S. champion Hazel Clark tests her skills in the women’s 800m race.  A trio of American women will take part in the 1,500m competition, as Christin Wurth-Thomas, Nikeya Green and Malindi Elmore all look to improve their personal bests.  We’ll keep you posted on what transpires.
